THE POWER AND IMPACT OF GIVING

“I was crying because I have no shoes to wear when I saw somebody with no feet…” This popular adage is just enough to stop one dead in his/her tract and reflect about the misery of this life before advancing. You may feel you have suffered or endured a lot, but remember yours was/is just a tip of the iceberg.

There are people who need your helping hand. You must not be a Bill Gates or an Oprah before giving. All you have to do is to reach deeply into your pocket and make the difference. Humanity needs your philanthropic gesture.

Here, we aren’t talking about war-torn zones; we are talking about the impacts of, poverty, misery and the HIV/AIDS pandemic. These faces you see never wished to be like this! Circumstances have pushed them to life’s extreme where return seem impossible, but today and right now you, I, we can turn the wheel around and put a smile on their faces. Believe you me that you will like to die and leave somebody in this state but you will not like to be left like this!

SOS STUDENTS is an emergent student association based in Buea and which is out to sensitise against unwanted pregnancy, premarital sex, and to fight against HIV/AIDS through the sponsorship of the needy, the infected youths and catering for the orphans of deceased youths in Boyo. Its activities span the whole of Boyo Division in the North West Region of Cameroon. Give without ceasing for it is the will of God. For blessed is the hand that giveth than the one that taketh.

KIDS: There is nothing like little, we need clothes, food education, scholarship and the little you can offer. We are grateful. “ayoŋnì” (Thank you!!)

Pam and Emma with some kids in Belo Sub Division, during one of their tours around the Belo village.

PAM:

Kids need this type of love, warmth, motherliness and care you see me dishing out to them. Don’t be an exception; you can do more than this.

EMMA:

They need you more than the snacks in the beer parlours and snack bars do. It’s really a choice we have to make.

Just imagine that you were the one using this stream to do your house chores and even drinking the water. They deserve better than this.

I feel relaxed and almost fulfilled after going round the village and settling down on a “mountain” of Fufu corn.

This to me is another form of sports. I love not just the charity work but the sports and recreation involve in traveling around the village

WIT

Wisdom for the Wisdomites

F To the world, you may be one person but to one person you are the world.

F Do not cry because it is over but smile because it happens.

F Never frown even when you are sad, because you never know who is in love with your smile.

F To succeed, do not follow the bandwagon, go where people are going.

F A pessimist is one who makes difficulties of his opportunities while an optimist is one who makes opportunities of his difficulties.

F Failure does not mean that you have failed; it just means you have not succeeded yet (Robert Schuller).

F Our main mission is not to see what lays dimly at a distance but what lays clearly at hand.

F If you don’t leave yesterday alone for today you will not live long enough to see your tomorrow.

F Today well lived, makes yesterday a happy dream and tomorrow a happy vision.

F Learn to live just till bedtime for everyday is a new life to a Wise man.

F If your children are not better than you are, then you have fathered them in vain.

POETRY CORNER

The Sounds of Smile

Shh!! Did you hear that sound?

It was the MP and his Mistress in a jeep

They headed for Hilton Hotel for the intoxicating

bottle of castle milk stout

Such hollow sound, it was of laughter, newfound.

Was it the unscrupulous money-possessed Landlord

Who sits in his thorn-breeding cushion and rancorously laugh?

But the exploited tenant boy too shall laugh

And in the Landlord a Nebuchadnezzar shall emerge.

Oh! Is it the ungrateful grade I teacher

Who with leper-chalked fingers points at his misery?

The AIDS-orphaned child wails; “I am hungry”,

Being dumped and marginalized by the society.

Was it the dutiful but miserable mother and the devoted housewife

Who screams in the hands of a perverted drunk husband?

Helpless screaming girl whose clitoris is being yanked,

In the name of tradition and maintaining her paper-white?

Did you see the trader and big tycoon?

They sigh under the heavy and crippling tax toll,

And some are sycophants amassing their usurious wealth.

And the hunch-back wrinkled old woman,

Like chain gang silently toils.

The mad Mr. Anybody shakes his head and smiles:

“There is no hope for hopeless and the hopeful,

The cycle keeps on going round and like a rainbow too.

I have already resigned to my fate

And you can only hear my smile”

BEHOLD! I

Here I Come

He sailed for the unknown and psychological bliss,

Suicidal if not death-kissing.

In every heart must be a silent peace,

A loving peace and worth-cherishing.

In every mortal, a sun shines,

A sun that must have crossed through thick and thin,

A never setting sun of sweet wine,

A sun that forever lingers within.

Behold! An enchanted land of the achu eaters,

Is the dream of the hospitalised wanderer,

Where the golden winter languishes the harmattan

And in the amused eye is wonder.

Apportioned to every heart

Is a balmised all-knowing Angel;

Where one must possess a manly heart

To see King Solomon’s colours in such an Angel.

BEHOLD! II

BROKEN VOW

When the natural clock chimes,

There is an unexpected U-turn,

Vows with the gods and psychology

Are forgotten and a return to the alma mater.

The hurt of the past distorts

The joy of the present and unveils

The bleakness of a dark pool in the future

Where uncertainty looms...

That future of today sees the sun

And the horizon of bliss is an unputdownable

Evergreen forest of petals, depicting

Such an irresistible mermaid that beckons

With a subtle and coy smile.

Behold! The angel strikes with Moses’ rock

And the gauged heart is erased without defects.

In such emotional bliss, the prickly thorns are

Left behind, as a happy tomorrow is painstakingly constructed

PRESBYTERIAN WOMAN GOES MAD AFTER PARTAKING IN A CATHOLIC COMMUNION SERVICE

A woman is roaming the streets of Pendamboko, in South West Region, after it was alleged that she partake in a communion service in a catholic church.

This woman attended a funeral mass and during sacrament, she also received Holy Communion and since then has not been herself. While people say she did not receive the communion with a “clean heart”, others say as a Presbyterian Christian, she was not supposed to receive it at all. When she was taken to the Reverend father of the church for confession and atonement, the man of God asked her family to take her to the Presbyterian Pastor for prayers and unravelling of the genesis of this madness.
